angel-st-1k Now that I've gotten a 1000 or so miles on my new Pirelli Angel St's I felt it was time for a follow up. Over the past 1000 miles I've ridden the Angels on my daily commute, hit the super slab with them, and abused them on some of my favorite twisty roads. These tires have been completely un-exciting and that's a good thing in a tire. They stick when they need too and I find them very agreeable to changing your line mid corner and will stay where you want them. On the other hand, I don't get the kind of feedback from the road surface I have been getting from previously enjoyed tires.

I noted in my original article that they seemed to require more provocation to turn in which I thought was due to their round profile, and that may be part of the issue, but I'm thinking now that they are heavier that the Road and Sport Attacks I had on there previously which would also make them more resistant to direction changes. I ended up pulling the fork tubes up in the triples a bit (1/4" maybe) and that appears to have provided the additional encouragement needed to get them to respond in a timely manner. They still don't drop into a corner like, say a set of Pilot Powers would, but between the fork adjustment and getting used the the tires themselves I feel completely comfortable charging a corner with them.

With over a 1000 miles at this point, it's still a bit early to tell if they are more resistant to squaring off than the aforementioned "Attack" tires, but the profile is remaining very round with minimal flat area in the middle at this point. An update further down the road is in order for sure. For now though, they are wearing very well and the tread still looks very fresh and deep. So will I buy another set when these get smooth? Well as good as they are, I still  prefer the quicker turn in and feedback of my previous tires. Now that Continental has released a Road Attack 2 I'll be looking forward to spooning a set of those on to see how they do but that'll hopefully be a few thousand miles from now.
