DSCN0079 Forum member Halliwood pointed out some exciting information over at the website tailofthedragon.com. North Carolina has now made it illegal for trucks over 30ft in length to operate on portions of US 129. Also included in the new truck ban are some other nearby state routes (NC28) and also the entire Cherohala Skyway.

This is excellent news for those who frequent the the area to ride as large trucks that venture down these tight mountain roads do sometimes find themselves unable to complete turns and end up stuck. Not only does this block traffic on the popular twisty bit of asphalt but this can be very hazardous as visibility on sections of US129 can be limited and as a result riders and drivers can find themselves staring a semi in the face as they come around a curve at speed.

New signs are in the works to warn truck drivers of the new restrictions and should be up in the coming weeks. For more information about this news visit tailofthedragon.com for details about what roads are involved and TDOT's response to a truck ban on the Tennessee side of US129.

Write an email to Governor Haslam and ask him to follow North Carolina's lead.
