motorcycle-accident-2 Recently we published news about how North Carolina is banning large trucks from US129 and surrounding roads. Today I found an interesting story about how North Carolina is doing right by motorcyclists via new statute. The Motorcycle Safety Act will punish drivers who cause a motorcyclist to unsafely change lanes (or run off the road) with a citation and a $200.00 fine.Likewise, if they cause the motorcyclist to actually have a crash as a result of their need to avoid the car driver, the fine goes up to $500.00.

Those numbers don't sound like much in terms of amount of the fine, but it is definitely a step in the right direction. The idea that one can be fined for driving that endangers/injures motorcyclists can only help increase awareness by drivers that they need to be more observant of motorcycles. I'd like to see similar legislation come to Tennessee and indeed the rest of the country as well.
